CBOE: Hybrid system working well for members and customers

By: Ray Pellecchia
File Under: NYSE

Our latest post mentioned the Chicago Mercantile Exchange and Chicago Board Options Exchange as examples of successful hybrid markets. Here's market consultant Diego Perfumo on much the same same topic in "Old and New Secure a Place at Options Table" by Peter A. McKay in today's Wall Streeet Journal:

"It's more difficult for the ISE [International Securities Exchange] to continue poaching volume at this point...They had a natural advantage the first few years of their existence, just by being an online exchange. But that's changed as the other exchanges, especially CBOE, have changed their access models and invested in technology."

The article goes on to quote CBOE Chairman and CEO William Brodsky: "What we have now is a new hybrid system that is working well for our members and customers."
