Tomorrow, the Financial Services Subcommittee on Capital Markets, Insurance and Government Sponsored Enterprises, chaired by Rep. Richard H. Baker (LA), will convene a hearing on "America’s Capital Markets: Maintaining Our Lead in the 21st Century."
NYSE Group Chairman Marshall Carter is among those scheduled to testify. We'll post his testimony as soon as it's available.
The Subcommittee's news release states:
At the hearing, the Subcommittee will explore the challenges the U.S. capital markets face in maintaining their competitiveness in a rapidly maturing global economy.
The hearing will address how the U.S. capital markets can benefit from streamlining regulation, reducing litigation, and supporting convergence to international accounting standards.
The rise of global markets has created a competitive environment that has given investors and companies a wide array of choices of which markets to invest in and raise funds. When determining where to access capital, companies consider several factors of each market, including costs to raise capital and requirements for initial public offerings. Many of these factors can make other markets seem more attractive.
