How about a couple of year-end historical trivia bits, courtesy of the New York Times "On This Day" :
1) Music birthday of the day: Marianne Faithfull, still rockin' at 60. Her Web site notes that she has recovered from breast cancer and plans a tour in the new year. Long may you run.
2) 1999 -- The Nasdaq composite index closed above 4,000 for the first time, ending the day at 4,041.46.
On This Day, which is poetic in its brevity, of course does not mention where the Nasdaq is today, seven years later.
That's what I'm here for!
It's in the vicinity of 2,400.
Just being helpful!
And for an extra helping of helpful, please forgive me for also mentioning that the NYSE Composite Index set another all-time high on Wednesday at 9,179.40, and though it's now off that mark a bit, it's still outperforming the Dow, the S&P 500, and the Nasdaq.
You want nice, sorry, you'll have to go elsewhere. Nice is not among my New Year's resolutions, this year or next.
