Hybridizing 75 issues on Friday

By: Ray Pellecchia
File Under: NYSE

Another 75 issues will join Phase III of the NYSE Hybrid Market on Friday, Dec. 22. We'll end the week with a total of 1,976 issues active in the Hybrid Market.

Here is the updated list of activated stocks, in .pdf and Excel formats.

Please note that the list contains three updates from those published previously:
1) ARS - Aleris International Inc. - last day of trading was 12/19.
2) INP- IPATH MSCI India Total Return Index - effective trade date is 12/20.
3) HCN PRG - Health Care Reit Inc.- effective trade date is 12/20.

On the trivia front, perhaps you thought I was going to take off on the number 1,976 (aka 1976) and run a big picture of Jimmy Carter or Gerald Ford. Too easy.

If I did that, I wouldn't be pointing out that on April 23, 1976, the Ramones released their first album, which was eponymous. (Not to mention excellent.)

And I wouldn't be giving you this tidbit about this day in NYSE's own history:

Today in NYSE History

20 Dec 1966 -- Optical card readers fully automated the transmission of trade data from the floor to the ticker network.

Nor would I be scouting out this item, which is a bit ironic, given that it concerns a historic international development on the same day that NYSE Group shareholders approved NYSE Group's merger with Euronext. From the New York Times' "On This Day":

Dec. 20, 1803 -- The Louisiana Purchase was completed as the territory was formally transferred from France to the United States during ceremonies in New Orleans.
