Q&A: Will NYSE Arca auto-route?

Hi Ray, With respect to Hybrid stocks, will the ARCA "ECN" now automatically route to the NYSE for instant execution (assuming NYSE has the best price at the time)? Thanks...!

Robert -- Arca already auto-routes to better prices in all the stocks it trades (not just Hybrid NYSE-listed stocks).

BTW, I wanted to also note that it's now NYSE Arca, and it's no longer an ECN -- it's an exchange.

Of course, a little sugar-cookie sprinkle of rock trivia for your last-day-before-a-holiday-weekend Friday, folks: today is the birthday of Robin Gibb of the BeeGees (57) and Rick Nielsen of Cheap Trick (60). And on a sadder note, four years ago today we lost Joe Strummer of the Clash, at the too-young age of 50.

The blog's been kinda quiet lately, I know. The day job keeps getting in my way. I have some more people to get back to on questions and comments, and will keep on that.

I'm taking a few days off next week and amid my own eggnog-induced haze will try to take a step-back look at next steps for this blog. As the NYSE Hybrid Market nears the home stretch, I'd like to broaden the conversation to include more products and services. More to come on that.

It's been quite a year here, to put it mildly. Merger. Going public. Hybrid. Another merger. Layoffs. And the tape keeps moving, right to left. The comments and questions keep coming into the blog, and I thank you for that. Your curiosity and your candor keeps me moving. I also thank my Hybrid-Building Colleagues for helping me answer the hard questions and learn more this year than I ever thought I could.

In the meantime, I hope you and yours enjoy the holidays, and that the new year brings health, happiness, peace and prosperity.
