File Under: NYSE, NYSE

A number of good questions and comments (and hopefully some good answers) followed yesterday's post about the new routing fee, including a couple about how routing works. To read more, click here.

Will Grant, a transportation manager looking to coordinate express bus service with the NYSE holiday schedule, asked for a copy of the NYSE holiday list, which also is posted on our home page. Happy to help, Will. Nice to occasionally get a question that isn't controversial!

Have you noticed which market has taken the lead in ETF listings and trading? Here's the news release, as if you can't guess.

And of course, a bit of historical trivia:

Today in NYSE History
21 Feb 1820 -- The NYSE instituted an initiation fee for new members for the first time -- $25.

All I can say to that is, twenty-five dollars!

Almost forgot: On This Day, it's the birthday of Jerry Harrison of the Talking Heads, who turns 58.

Josh -- We've fought that battle before, to no avail, but I never say never. Please see my comments about nickels to Tony Dey in this post. Thanks for writing.

I would like to see the NYSE create an alternative market with stocks quoted in Nickel increments with certain size requirements to participate as an answer to the "Dark Pool" markets that many of the top firms use to execute large blocks at one price. I think the NYSE would do really well with this and the volume would be huge in this type of market. Thanks Ray.
