I think this is a good change: NYSE has proposed to the SEC to establish a procedure to compensate member firms in the event an NYSE system malfunctions and causes an error trade or missed execution. Historically, we always took the position that the firms, not NYSE, were responsible for absorbing the costs of such problems. Here's a memo to our member firms explaining the proposal, and a form for submitting claims.
A little historical trivia for your Thursday, folks:
Today in NYSE History
22 Feb 1973 -- The NYSE launched its first national TV advertising campaign, aimed to inform the public about the benefits of investing in listed securities.
Also On This Day:
1980 -- In a stunning upset, the U.S. Olympic hockey team defeated the Soviets 4-3 at Lake Placid, N.Y.
