NYSE Offers Discounted News Releases on Business Wire: NYSE Euronext, owner of the world's biggest equity market, said companies listed on the New York Stock Exchange will get discounts on press-release distribution through an agreement with Warren Buffett's Business Wire. The almost 2,700 companies whose shares trade on the Big Board will be able to convert public statements into regulatory filings for free and have access to "incentive'' prices on other services provided by Business Wire, a unit of Buffett's Berkshire Hathaway Inc., the exchange said. Enterprise 2.0 comes to Wall Street: When the NYSE bought Transacttools I wrote “Sam Johnson (CEO/Founder of Transacttools) has always had one of the most expansive views of financial markets connected via messaging protocols and tools…its fascinating that the NYSE has purchased the group…I think it says a lot about how they view the future development of transactional markets.” (ShopYield.com)
Happy Friday, folks. Historically speaking, On This Day: 1626 -- Dutch explorer Peter Minuit landed on what is now Manhattan. [This is an important event in local history. It was the Dutch who founded New Amsterdam and in 1653 built a 12-foot-high wood stockade across lower Manhattan from river to river to protect themselves from attacks by the British and Indians. It was the wall that gave Wall Street its name. The protection didn't last long, however; the British captured New Amsterdam in 1664 and renamed it New York. All this according to "New York Stock Exchange: Another Century."
