Welcome to Exchanges, our new blog

By: Ray Pellecchia
File Under: Miscellaneous

I kinda feel like the movers are here and I'm not all packed up yet, but here goes -- this blog is beginning again. Close the door on the old place, and walk into the new.

I've written a number of times (most recently, here) that we've been working on creating a bigger, broader blog to reflect NYSE Euronext's multiple market platforms and diverse products and services. Forgive my reaching around to pat ourselves on the back, but we have a breadth of offerings unrivaled by any other market operator, and I believe we should be blogging about all of them.

Today is just a step toward that goal. Today, we transform HybridTalk into Exchanges. You'll see many additional changes in this space in the future, but here are a few right off the bat:

-- The Categories menu at top right is simplified, making it faster and easier to home into the marketplace, product or service you want to read or talk about. For example, the old categories of How Hybrid Works, Q&A, etc. are now rolled up into NYSE Hybrid/Equities Market, and we've carried all the HybridTalk entries over into Exchanges. Additional categories will be added as I continue to recruit victims...er, I mean...as I continue to recruit bloggers from among my colleagues. As I've mentioned, I'm hoping to bring into the conversation business leaders from the various areas.

-- For the first time, we're offering a blog roll, also at right. This is an effort to suggest to you some blogs that readers and I have found interesting, and to help generate more conversation about markets. Recommendations for additional blogs still welcome.

-- The new name reflects the blog's broader mission, as well as the multi-channel nature back-and-forth of blog conversation. More on that below.

-- There is a new "About" descriptor on the top toolbar, as follows:

Exchanges is a blog about the markets, products and services of NYSE Euronext, the world's largest exchange group. Our goal is to share information and insights, and to have you share yours. The name of the blog signals not only that it's about marketplaces but also that we want to have an open, multi-way exchange of ideas.

All of the bloggers on Exchanges are employed by NYSE Euronext (unless otherwise noted). That doesn't necessarily mean that we're speaking for the company in everything we write, particularly when we're expressing opinions. So if we say that the Beatles were the greatest band of all time, that isn't necessarily the official view of NYSE Euronext. Even though the Beatles were indeed the best band ever. (See? That's exactly what we're talking about!)

We strive for accuracy and timeliness. When we make mistakes, we correct them in a prompt and prominent manner.

Exchanges welcomes questions and comments. We may edit comments for length, foul language, grammar, personal attacks or other reasons. We allow anonymous or pseudonymous comments, although we prefer signed comments, which we believe carry more weight in the online conversation. We also do our best to answer questions and respond to comments, within the constraints of the fact that blogging is not a full-time gig for any of us.

We link to blogs, news articles and Web sites that we think will be of interest to you. We do not vouch for their accuracy, endorse their viewpoints, or endorse the blogs, articles and sites to which they link.

Exchanges is a successor to our HybridTalk blog. You can find the HybridTalk content (if you're having trouble sleeping or need an extra fix of trivia) via the search, categories and archives features.

In the coming weeks, I hope to introduce a number of other changes -- including additional voices -- to Exchanges.

Three quick comments:

1) A sincere thank you to all who have read, responded to, talked about, linked to, cursed at, lined the birdcage with or otherwise engaged with HybridTalk. I hope you'll stick with us in our new, transmogrified form, Exchanges.

2) My deep appreciation to my Hybrid-Building Colleagues who have been so generous with their time and expertise in supplying me with just all the smart things I've ever written here. I couldn't ask to ghost-write for a better bunch. I truly mean it when I say I couldn't have done it without you.

Well, I guess I could have done it without you, but it would have really sucked.

I also thank my blog-tech-creative-support-rescue-genius colleagues, who keep this thing going every day and made the re-launch possible, all in their "spare" time.

3) When I started up this blog I had no idea what to expect, and I've never been disappointed. Getting "out there" has meant a lot of work, and a bit of risk. But the conversation in HybridTalk never ceased to surprise me, teach me and otherwise keep me going.

Today, I'm in about the same place where I started, not knowing what to expect. As I've learned from experience, that's not a bad place to be.

Ray,

Wow, I'm flattered to be included with such great company on your blogroll.

If it's okay, I'll link you as Sexchanges on my blog... it could help bring you more traffic early on.

DT -- LOL...you have a unique gift for re-branding. Must admit, I hadn't thought of that one.

I'll bet there's an actual site with that url, but I'll probably get myself fired if I try to check.

Ray,

I just checked (I trade from home) and the url does indeed exist.

However, there is a big warning on the front page about being at least 18 in order to enter. I went no further.

So, needless to say, you probably would be fired if you checked it out.
