NYSE to Host Virtual Investor Forum: "Investing in Asia" (NYSE.com) -- Tomorrow, Tuesday, 9 Oct. at 8:55 a.m., NYSE will host a Virtual Investor Forum: Investing in Asia, featuring the following NYSE-listed companies: Honda Motor Co. Ltd.; Korea Electric Power Corporation, or KEPCO; New Oriental Education & Technology Group Inc.; Nidec Corporation; PT Indosat Tbk; Qiao Xing Mobile Communication Co. Ltd.; Wipro Ltd.; and American Dairy. Details after the jump.

BTW, 9 Oct. also is John Lennon's birthday.

Speaking of Asia, NYSE on Friday listed the 10th new company this year from Greater China: China Digital TV Holding Co., Ltd., the leading provider of conditional access systems to China’s rapidly growing digital television market. The company’s IPO raised $192 million.

Also on Friday, the NYSE Composite Index® set a new closing high. The NYA closed at 10,247.13, up 12.1% for the year to date and continues to be the best-performing index that not nearly enough people follow, IMO.

Today in NYSE History (well, Saturday, actually):
6 Oct. 1863 -- The NYSE bought its first property at 13 Wall St. and 4 New St -- a portion of its current site. (NYSE.com) Blog HQ today sits 12 floors above that site. I wonder if the folks back in 1863 ever imagined that... nah.

And I just had to mention, for all my fellow Yankee fans hanging on by a thread, that On This Day in 1956, the Yanks' Don Larsen threw the only perfect game in World Series history as the Yankees beat the Brooklyn Dodgers, 2-0. If that isn't proof that anything is possible, I don't know what is. (NYTimes.com)
