Dow Closes 401.35 Points Higher

By: Ray Pellecchia
File Under: NYSE

I just came back from a walk on the trading floor at the close, because I wanted multiple WITNESSES to see that:
1) The Dow closed up today, more than 400 points.
2) I was actually in the house and did not by my presence cause the Dow to do otherwise.

So I declare the jinx OVER. Done with, past tense, finito.

Which is good. I was getting tired of the hallway conversation:-

"You're here today? I'd better move some more of my 401(k) into fixed."

"Pretty soon you're going to need a security guard to walk on the floor."

"There he is, the shorts' best friend!"

I couldn't get away from it, even at home. Usually I go home and the conversation with the kids begins like this:

Hi Dad.

Hi honies, how was school?

Good. How was work?

Good.

But last night, there was this:

Hi Dad.

Hi honies, how was school?

Good. How was work?

A little tough today.

Did the market go down again?

Yes, honies.

How much?

About 700 points.

Seven HUNDRED points? Oh, Daddy!

Out of the mouths of 7- and 11-year-olds. I'll be happy tonight to let the conversation turn back to homework.
