Quarterly Expiration Tomorrow, 19 June
- By: Ray Pellecchia
- File Under: NYSE, NYSE Amex, NYSE Arca
In case you missed it: tomorrow is the quarterly expiration of stock and index options and futures. The second quarter is drawing to a close.
Where does the time go?
While you're pondering that, here's an Information Memo (is there any other kind of memo? -- I mean, can there be a memorandum without information, aren't we being a little redundant?) about procedures you might want to freshen up on in connection with the expiration. Such as: "rules and policies regarding opening imbalance publications, entry and cancellation of market-on-close/limit-on-close ('MOC/LOC') and other order types, publication of on-the-close imbalances, and printing the closing transaction."
And no, MOC/LOCs are not something you wear on your feet on rainy days like this.
Tomorrow also is the birthday of Lou Gehrig, one of the greatest baseball players of all time. I call him that not just because he was a Yankee; you can read here just the numbers behind his amazing, interrupted career. Born on tomorrow's date in 1903, according to the New York Times' "On This Day", Gehrig died far too soon -- on 2 June, 1941 -- from the disease that later came to bear his name. And don't get me started on the incredible grace behind his "luckiest man on the face of the Earth" speech. So instead of feeling sorry for myself as I slog through another rainy New York day, I'll think of the Iron Horse, and that should put my trivial troubles in proper perspective.
